Artisan Interiors is a prominent company in residential/commercial reupholstery and custom-to-order furniture manufacturing in Northern California and Reno/NV. The shop is in the center of Sacramento’s industrial area with continuous orders and strong growth.

We are looking for upholsterers with a strong work ethic, openness to being coached, a willingness to learn, integrity, honesty, willingness to collaborate as a team, and a self-starter.

We are hiring multiple positions for experienced upholsterers. Qualified candidates will be invited for an interview and skill test. Qualified candidates need to complete a background check before hiring.

This is a physical job so employees must be able to sit, stand, reach, and carry as needed to complete tasks in a timely manner on a full-shift (8 hours). Capable of carrying, lifting, and handling furniture, fabric bolts, materials, packages, etc. up to 45 pounds.

Must arrive at work on time, be reliable, trainable, attentive to detail, and be drug-free at work. Follow established processes and procedures at work.

Willingness to be cross-trained in other skills as required. Working as a team, assist in furniture pick-up/delivery as well as uninstallation/installation off-site when necessary. Assist in facility cleaning.

Experienced Upholsterers must be able to do the tasks below with high attention to detail and quality under the supervision of the Lead Upholsterer and Master Upholsterer.

• Determine amounts and types of covering materials.
• Remove old covering, webbing, padding, and/or defective springs from workpieces.
• Weave and fasten strips of webbing to the back, sides, and underneath of furniture, using small hand tools and fasteners.
• Repair and re-glue furniture joints, frames, legs, arms, etc.
• Re-tie new coil springs on webbing base using the 8-way hand-tie.
• Stretch and secure sinuous springs to the furniture frame.
• Operate saw table and band saw machines to perform simple frame cuts.
• Assemble furniture frame following models and visual guides.
• Build furniture internal padding using dacron, cotton batting, edge roll, webbing, burlap, foam, etc.
• Measure, cut, and trim foam with hand tools as well as change foam inserts out of cushions. Stuff cushions with polyester batting and down-fill feathers.
• Measure, cut, and prep covering material for the sewing team such as fabric, microfiber, microsuede, linen, cotton, velvet, vinyl, leather, hair on hide, etc.
• Upholster new covering materials that have large fabric pattern repeat which requires symmetrical matching on furniture.
• Upholster skirts to furniture.
• Create button tufting using needles, thread, and hand tools.
• Create diamond tufting using needles, thread, and hand tools.
• Create channel backs on furniture.
• Attach single welt, double welt, gimp, and decorative nails to covers or furniture frames.
• Sew upholstery by hand to seam cushions and join various sections of upholstery materials.
• Perform other related upholstery tasks as assigned or be willing to be trained to do so.

Preferred Sewing Skills (not required):

• Operate industrial sewing machines.
• Operate industrial surging machines.
• Sew covering materials of solid color.
• Sew covering materials that have large fabric pattern repeat which requires extensive measurements and symmetrical matching.
• Sew furniture skirts.
• Sew cushion slipcovers.

Hours: 8-hour shift 6:00a-2:30p Monday thru Friday with occasional variable hours in the late evenings as well as weekends when necessary.

Job Type: 40-hour work week. Full-time, part-time, and contract positions are available.

Pay: Competitive pay ranges from $20-$28 per hour for upholsterers.

Work Location: Industrial warehouse facility in the heart of Sacramento on the corner of Florin Perkins Road and Belvedere Ave.
