Lead Upholsterer / Upholstery Foreman

Lousso Designs — Norwood, Massachusetts
Full-Time | In Person
Compensation: Competitive and based on experience — $100,000+ salary available for highly qualified candidates

About Lousso Designs

Lousso Designs is a growing custom furniture and upholstery manufacturer serving interior designers, commercial clients, hospitality projects, institutions, and high-end residential clients.

We produce custom upholstered furniture, banquettes, headboards, cushions, wall upholstery, and specialty furniture from our production facility in Norwood, Massachusetts.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Upholsterer / Upholstery Foreman who is first and foremost a skilled craftsperson.

This is a hands-on working foreman position. You will work directly on furniture alongside our upholstery team while also helping organize production, maintain quality standards, train team members, and improve how the shop operates.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on experience and level of responsibility.

We are prepared to offer a salary of $100,000+ to candidates who have 5+ years of experience in a significant leadership, foreman, production-management, or senior upholstery role within a large-scale furniture manufacturing operation.

We are especially interested in candidates who have helped lead upholstery production at established furniture manufacturers producing at meaningful volume while maintaining strong quality standards.

Exceptional candidates with deep furniture-manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply even if relocation to Massachusetts would be required.

What You'll Do

  • Upholster and reupholster custom furniture from start to finish

  • Work hands-on with chairs, sofas, banquettes, headboards, cushions, and other custom pieces

  • Handle fabric application, foam, webbing, padding, pattern matching, fitting, and finishing

  • Help organize daily and weekly production schedules

  • Assign and coordinate work across the upholstery floor

  • Perform quality-control checks throughout production

  • Identify problems before pieces reach final inspection

  • Train and mentor upholsterers and developing craftspeople

  • Help establish clear upholstery standards, procedures, and SOPs

  • Improve workflow, organization, efficiency, and accountability on the production floor

  • Coordinate with project management, design, sewing, carpentry, and production teams

  • Help the company consistently meet demanding quality standards and project deadlines

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with significant professional furniture upholstery experience who can personally perform high-quality work.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Extensive hands-on furniture upholstery experience

  • Strong knowledge of traditional and modern upholstery methods

  • Experience with custom furniture and one-of-a-kind projects

  • Excellent understanding of fabric, foam, padding, webbing, frames, pattern matching, and finishing

  • Strong attention to detail and high quality standards

  • Ability to diagnose and solve upholstery and furniture-construction problems

  • Experience training or supervising other upholsterers

  • Production or manufacturing experience strongly preferred

  • Experience working in a larger upholstery or furniture-manufacturing operation is a major plus

  • Ability to balance craftsmanship with production schedules and deadlines

  • Reliable, organized, and comfortable taking ownership of the workroom

Premium Foreman Candidate

For our highest compensation level, we are particularly interested in candidates who have:

  • 5+ years in a significant upholstery leadership, foreman, production, or supervisory role

  • Experience at a large-scale furniture manufacturer

  • Managed or coordinated multiple upholsterers or production employees

  • Owned production scheduling, workflow, quality control, or departmental output

  • Built or implemented SOPs, training systems, production standards, or quality-control processes

  • Experience producing furniture at scale while maintaining high craftsmanship standards

  • The ability and willingness to continue working hands-on on the production floor

Candidates meeting this profile may qualify for a $100,000+ salary package.

You do not need to be a career manager.

A highly experienced upholsterer who has worked as a lead craftsperson, senior upholsterer, production lead, or informal team leader and is ready to take the next step is also encouraged to apply.

What Makes This Opportunity Different

We are not looking for someone to stand on the sidelines and manage craftspeople.

We want someone who knows the trade, enjoys working on the floor, and wants to help build an exceptional upholstery operation.

Lousso Designs is growing, and this role has the opportunity to become an important long-term leadership position within our production organization.

You will have the opportunity to influence:

  • how our upholstery department operates;

  • quality-control standards;

  • training and development;

  • production systems;

  • shop organization;

  • scheduling and workflow; and

  • the future growth of the department.

We value craftsmanship, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

If you are an experienced upholsterer who takes pride in your work and wants an opportunity to help lead and build a growing furniture operation, we would like to hear from you.
